Construction Schedule Overview

Construction for Entire Woodside Project:

  • Woodside Boulevard roadway resurfacing/rehabilitation
  • Corridor improvements to include sidewalks, bike lanes, curb/gutter, landscape zones, pocket parking in some areas and mailbox banks on each block
  • Roundabout at the intersection of Woodside and Fox Acres
  • Traffic signal at SH-75 and Woodside intersection

The ultimate goal of Woodside Boulevard improvements is to provide a safe corridor for all types of Woodside users, including motorists, bus passengers, bicyclists or pedestrians. The city thanks the neighbors, business owners, and others who have helped shape what Woodside will look like in the future.

Landscaping Information

At a May 9 Public Hearing, the City Council approved a long-term landscaping plan for Woodside Boulevard that combines proposed landscaping alternatives 1 and 3. These alternatives incorporate water-wise turf grass and regularly-spaced trees, and maximize use of existing trees and landscaping whenever feasible. (See the three alternatives in this newsletter.)

Council is working toward a plan for planting, watering and maintenance to be paid for by the city.

Landscaping is planned between the sidewalk and road on most of the Woodside corridor. There are some exceptions to this configuration (mostly in south Woodside), where landscaping will be eliminated as a trade-off to allow space for pockets of on-street parking. In these areas, the sidewalk will be adjacent to the curb. This change to the initial plan was made in response to resident requests for more on-street parking.

Some of these changes were made as a result of the May 4-5 Woodside resident meetings. Other revisions prompted by property owner conversations included efforts to preserve driveway length by meandering sidewalks around driveways, or eliminating sections of landscaping strips to allow the sidewalk to be closer to the road. In some cases, changes were made so that large trees, bushes or shrubs could be preserved.

Project Documents & Reports

Project Background

Hailey's 35-year-old Woodside Boulevard is one of the busiest streets in Hailey, second only to Main Street (SH-75). The large amount of activity comes from a variety of users – Woodside-area residents, business, commuters, students, bicyclists, pedestrians, recreationists and more.

The city and residents have recognized the importance of making this a safe transportation corridor. Improving Woodside Boulevard has been in the city's Capital Improvement Plan for many years, and it was identified as the number one priority for residential street improvements by citizens responding to a community wide survey completed in 2009.

In Fall 2010, the City of Hailey was awarded a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to make improvements to Woodside Boulevard. This grant is funded through the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) II Discretionary Grant program. More than 1,000 grant applications were received by the U.S. DOT, and Hailey's award is one of 42 nationwide and one of only two in Idaho.

The goal of these improvements is to provide a safe corridor for all users of Woodside Boulevard, using design principles that consider motorists, public transit passengers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
